Pope Benedict XVI has pointed to Our Lady and the Crib as the antidotes to ‘commercial contamination’ this Christmas.

In a pre Christmas Angelus address the Pope warned that this period suffers from ‘a sort of commercial "contamination," which runs the risk of altering its authentic spirit’. The Crib, he goes on to say, can help us, in fact, to understand the secret of the true Christmas, because it speaks of humility and the merciful goodness of Christ, who "though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor" (2 Corinthians 8:9)…
